Commissioner Zenzinger: Sign Up for LookoutAlert Emergency Notifications

As we witness the devastating effects of recent floods in Texas, it's important to remember that natural disasters can strike anywhere at any time. In Jefferson County, we're committed to ensuring the safety of our residents. One way we do this is through LookoutAlert, a system that provides real-time emergency notifications. By signing up for LookoutAlert, you'll be taking an important step in protecting yourself and your family during times of crises.

LookoutAlert is the official emergency notification system for Jefferson County, including all the cities and towns within it, the City and County of Broomfield, and the City of Westminster. The system enables emergency responders to send emergency and public safety messages to residents for a range of situations, including wildfires, floods, weather-related conditions, police activity, and missing person alerts.

Often, people will wait for an emergency to arise before signing up for LookoutAlert notifications, but there are several reasons why you should sign up before an emergency occurs:

  • Signing up beforehand ensures you will receive notifications as soon as possible during an emergency, giving you the maximum about of time to prepare or take action.
  • During an emergency, you might be overwhelmed or distracted, and signing up beforehand removes this additional stress.
  • During an emergency, phone lines or internet access may be disrupted, making it difficult or impossible to sign up for Lookout Alert when it's most needed.
  • You'll have peace of mind knowing that you've already sign up and will receive relevant, timely, and possibly life-saving information when you need it most.
