New AI platform brings autonomous development workflows, model freedom, and MCP-powered extensibility to native application development
Austin, TX - May 28th, 2026 - Embarcadero Technologies, an Idera, Inc. company, today announced Kai, an agentic AI platform for RAD Studio, Delphi, and C++Builder. Kai transforms the RAD Studio IDE into an AI-powered development environment where an autonomous agent can generate code and user interfaces, compile projects, resolve build errors, and execute multi-step workflows - bringing the full capability of agentic AI to native, compiled-language development for the first time.
Kai goes beyond code suggestions. Through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), Kai operates as a self-directed agent inside the IDE with direct access to the compiler, the file system, and editor buffers. Its automated compile-fix-recompile workflow allows Kai to build a project, read error output, apply corrections, and recompile iteratively - a capability uniquely suited to compiled languages where the build step is a hard requirement that generic AI coding tools are not designed to handle.
Kai provides four integration surfaces across the IDE: Ghost Text for inline code completions, CodeInsight completions within RAD Studio's existing code completion interface, a Suggestions panel for generating and comparing multiple alternatives, and Kai Chat - a conversational agent that can reference project files, compile code, debug issues, and implement features through natural-language interaction.
"Kai gives developers the best of both worlds - the power to modernize and evolve existing codebases with AI, and the freedom to vibe code entirely new applications from a conversation," said Marco Cantu, RAD Studio Product Manager at Embarcadero. "Whether you have twenty years of Delphi in production or you're starting a project today, Kai meets you where you are and takes you forward."
Kai is built on RAD Studio's Open Tools API, giving developers the freedom to choose - and change - their AI provider. Out of the box, Kai supports OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, GitHub Copilot, and local models via Ollama and LM Studio. The Open Tools API allows developers and third parties to write plugins for any additional LLM that exposes a REST API.
This open architecture addresses a growing concern in the developer tools market. Enterprise AI spending has risen sharply while agentic workflows consume significantly more tokens per task than traditional AI interactions. By enabling developers to switch between cloud providers based on cost and capability - or to run entirely on local models - Kai ensures that AI-assisted development remains economically sustainable and free from vendor lock-in.
The ability to run local models is particularly relevant for Embarcadero's customer base, which includes organizations in regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, and government where source code cannot leave the premises.
Kai's agentic capabilities are powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard for connecting AI agents to external tools and data sources. Kai includes an MCP server interface for the RAD Studio IDE, enabling the AI engine to interact with the compiler, file system, and edit buffers as first-class tools. Developers can extend Kai's reach by connecting their own MCP servers for version control, databases, CI pipelines, and other external services.
Kai is available as an annual subscription at $249 per year, with identical pricing across RAD Studio Professional, Enterprise, and Architect editions. A fully functional 30-day trial with no feature limitations is available for existing RAD Studio 12 and 13 users. New users can download a RAD Studio trial with Kai support included. Kai installs directly from GetIt, Embarcadero's integrated package manager. Kai is also included free of charge in the Academic edition of RAD Studio.
"Embarcadero believes that the next generation of developers should learn to work alongside AI from the start and not as an afterthought bolted on after graduation." says Ben Schwenk, General Manager of Embarcadero. "By giving students and educators full access to Kai, Embarcadero is ensuring that developers entering the workforce are already fluent in agentic development workflows and prepared for how software is built today."
