Beacon Pacific Offshore Ltd, a subsidiary of CIMC Offshore Assets, is pleased to announce that it has successfully entered into a drilling contract with Serica Energy (UK) Limited for the deployment of the sixth-generation harsh environment semi-submersible drilling rig, Beacon Pacific. The drilling programme is scheduled to commence in the UK sector during the third quarter of 2027. The contract encompasses a firm scope of six wells, along with further options for additional activity in the region.
Headquartered in London, Serica Energy is a leading UK-based independent upstream oil and gas operator and one of the core producers on the UK North Sea, with a diversified portfolio of hydrocarbon assets across the UK Continental Shelf.
Built by CIMC Raffles, the Beacon Pacific marks the second GM4D series semi-submersible rig to set sail for the high-end Northwest European market. The Beacon Pacific features an advanced GM4-D design and a robust DP3 dynamic positioning system. Purpose-built and winterized for Arctic conditions, the unit is optimized for efficiency with offline capabilities and an active heave compensation system. Classified by DNV, the rig meets the world's most stringent regulatory requirements-including NORSOK and UK standards-for operations across the harsh environments of Norway and the UK. Amidst sustained momentum in the global oil and gas sector, the successful reactivation and deployment of the Beacon Pacific further underscore the strong market demand and enduring attractiveness of such high-specification offshore assets.
In conjunction with this contract award, Odfjell Drilling (ODL) has been appointed under a management agreement to carry out the operational management of the rig. Reactivation and preparatory activities have already partially commenced. As the asset owner, CIMC Offshore Assets remains committed to deepening its strategic collaboration with ODL, leveraging their extensive international drilling expertise to consistently deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality services to our clients.
Mr. Li Minggao, Vice President of CIMC Raffles commented: "We are thrilled to finalize this landmark agreement with Serica Energy. The deployment of the Beacon Pacific to the UK Continental Shelf demonstrates the global competitiveness of our high-specification harsh environment assets. Working in close collaboration with Serica Energy and our trusted rig manager, Odfjell Drilling, we look forward to executing a highly successful drilling campaign and continuing to provide premium offshore solutions to the international market."
