Queer Elders of Iowa City present Queer Dance at Studio 13 on Sept. 27

Queer Elders of Iowa City, a group of the Iowa City Senior Center (ICSC), invites the community to a Queer Dance from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, at Studio 13, 13 S. Linn St., directly across the street from ICSC at 28 S. Linn St.

DJ and Studio 13 owner Jason Zeman will play queer anthems and dance music from the 1960s throughout today. Drinks will be available for purchase.

The gathering was created for people who love nightclub dancing but would rather not stay out until closing time. Anyone who is queer friendly is welcome.

"The dance floor should not have a particular time that leaves people out," said LaTasha DeLoach, Senior Center Coordinator. "Queer Elders asked for a way to be together in a space that has always mattered to this community, at a time of day that works for them. That is what belonging looks like in practice."

Queer Elders of Iowa City meets at ICSC and creates space for LGBTQ older adults and their allies to connect, celebrate, and build community. The group is one of several ICSC programs appearing this fall as part of the ICSC 45th anniversary year, and will also perform at the anniversary showcase at The Englert Theatre on Sept. 17, 2026.
