ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Alison Jean Hamilton '92, '95, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was recently elected by the S.C. General Assembly to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees.
She assumes the vacant seat for the 7th Congressional District and her term is effective immediately.
Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Hamilton lived in Rock Hill for 20 years before moving to the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach in 2005. She is a financial advisor, working with her father, Haden Hamilton.
She is a member of the Winthrop University Alumni Association Board. In addition, she started the Myrtle Beach Alumni Association Chapter.
She returns often to Winthrop to cheer on and support student-athletes across multiple sports, and she enjoys attending theatre performances, meetings and special events such as Homecoming.
Hamilton earned a B.S. in business administration with an option in economics and an M.B.A. from Winthrop. As a student, she attended a summer course at the Université de Caen in France.
With many legacy ties to Winthrop, she is one of eight family members who attended Winthrop.
Active in her community, Hamilton is past president of the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach. She was named Rotarian of the Year in 2018-19 for the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach and District 7770 Membership Rotarian of the Year 2018-19 for excelling in her role as membership chair.
