AUSTIN ⎯ Governor Greg Abbott today announced a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant award totaling over $79,000 to Texas State Technical College (TSTC) by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Through this grant, TSTC will provide customized training for 40 new and current workers at USG Corporation's Sweetwater facility for high-demand occupations in industrial building construction.
"As Texas leads the nation in economic development, it is crucial that we invest in skills development programs that strengthen our workforce," said Governor Abbott. "This job training grant will aid hardworking students at TSTC by developing their industrial building construction skills to earn a high-paying career. Thank you to the Texas Workforce Commission for working to ensure Texas remains the best place to work and live."
"By connecting employers with valuable training resources, the Skills Development Fund is building a direct pipeline of talent that's customized to meet industry demand," said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza. "TSTC and USG Corporation have created a powerful partnership that will drive the region's workforce system forward."
Earlier today, Chairman Esparza presented the awards to representatives from TSTC and USG Corporation during a ceremony held at TSTC's Sweetwater Campus.
