Fargo, ND - Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) joined Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) in welcoming Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins for a series of agriculture-focused events across eastern North Dakota on Tuesday. The visit included a roundtable discussion at North Dakota State University (NDSU) along with site visits to the Grand Farm Innovation Campus and American Crystal Sugar processing plant in Moorhead, Minn. The discussions highlighted the strength of North Dakota's farm economy, the future of precision ag technology, and the importance of a strong farm bill.
"Yesterday was an incredible opportunity to show Secretary Rollins how North Dakota is leading the way-not just in growing the crops and cattle, but also in developing innovative technology to do it better. We're problem-solvers in North Dakota, but we need the federal government to negotiate strong trade agreements, pass a farm bill, cut the red tape and provide tax certainty so rural America can do what it does best: feed and fuel the world," Fedorchak said.
"North Dakota is rich in agriculture. Wheat, potato, sugar beet, and cattle farmers in the state are driving innovation and continuing the long legacy of feeding, fueling, and clothing the world. It was great to see the next generation of agricultural leaders and ingenuity of American agriculture at North Dakota State University. I look forward to continuing to work with leaders like Senator Hoeven, Congresswoman Fedorchak, and Governor Armstrong and hear from farmers in North Dakota as we put Farmers First at USDA," Secretary Rollins said.
At NDSU, Fedorchak participated in a roundtable discussion with Secretary Rollins, Senator Hoeven, Governor Armstrong, Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring, and North Dakota producers, researchers, and business leaders to talk through the most pressing issues facing farm country. Top of mind in the discussion was the need for long-term certainty, especially when it comes to regulations and markets.
During the roundtable, Secretary Rollins announcedthe release of over $340 million in disaster assistance for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities nationwide-including $5 million for North Dakota to help rebuild electric infrastructure after storms and wildfires.
Following the roundtable, Fedorchak joined NDSU's Student Ag Ambassadors for lunch and a conversation about the future of farming and agribusiness in North Dakota.
At the Grand Farm Innovation Campus in Wheatland, Fedorchak joined the delegation for a hands-on look at the latest innovations in precision agriculture. "These new technologies hold great promise for solving workforce challenges, reducing inputs, improving yields and so much more. Truly it's a new day in agriculture. We certainly have some tough conditions right now, but the promise and opportunity are so bright," Fedorchak said.
The day wrapped up with a tour of the American Crystal Sugar Company processing plant in Moorhead, where the Secretary Rollins saw how North Dakota sugar beet growers are adding value to a key crop and supporting jobs, co-ops, and rural economies across the region.
