Greek Week Returns to GW

Greek Week returned to the George Washington University last week, bringing students together for fun, food and community.

The theme of this year's events was the Wild West and featured plenty of activities such as tug-of-war, dunk tanks and a banner-decorating contest.

Of GW's 30 chapters, 27 participated in Greek Week, with each attending at least two events.

What was new this year was the event was primarily student-led. The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life partnered with a student leadership committee to organize the event.

Jay Parra, the president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, co-chaired the event with Bella Fournier, vice president of member experience for the Panhellenic Association.

The event brought together the four fraternity and sorority governing councils for some friendly competition. The chapters were divided into five multi-council teams and competed in daily events to earn leaderboard points, cash prizes for chapter treasuries and the title of Greek Week 2026 Grand Champion.

The week also provided an opportunity for students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority at GW to interact with chapter members and learn about their options ahead of formal recruitment, as many events were open to all GW students.

Parra, a junior studying marketing and a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Sigma Chapter, said engagement is the ultimate goal of Greek Week.

"These interactions have strengthened relationships across fraternity and sorority life and created opportunities for future collaborations and partnerships on campus," Parra said.

In her role as co-chair, Parra oversaw event logistics and operations while helping coordinate communication across all four fraternity and sorority life councils.

She said it's important to keep creating meaningful opportunities for students to come together and build community.

"Overall, Greek Week has provided students with a space to connect, support one another and build relationships beyond their individual chapters and councils while continuing to uphold the missions and values of their respective organizations," Parra said.
