WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) celebrated a new $1.495 million grant from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program awarded to the Groton-New London airport for construction of new taxiway drainage.
"The Groton-New London Airport has heightened value for southeastern Connecticut with the sharp increase in employment in defense manufacturing and the Groton Sub Base," Courtney said. "This new funding follows investments in the Groton-New London Airport from the Infrastructure Law of 2021 and will help ensure the airport is ready to accommodate the increased demand that comes with a growing economy."
"The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is pleased to receive this grant funding for an important airfield safety project at Groton-New London Airport," said CAA Executive Director & CEO Michael W. Shea. "Thank you to Congressman Courtney and the rest of the delegation for continuing to fight for additional resources to support this important regional asset and all of the CAA's airports."
BACKGROUND
In addition to this new funding for taxiway drainage, the Infrastructure Law of 2021, which Courtney helped pass in Congress, has funded taxiway signage and lighting improvements and snow removal equipment upgrades at the Groton-New London Airport.
