Sen. Tim Bearden Chairs First NextGen 911 Subcommittee Meeting

ATLANTA (September 30, 2025)-On Thursday, September 25, Sen. Tim Bearden (R-Carrollton) chaired the first meeting of the Senate Committee on Public Safety's Subcommittee on NextGen 911. During the meeting, Chairman Bearden and committee members heard testimony from members of the 911 community regarding the costs and implementation of NextGen 911, a digital internet protocol-based system set to replace the nation's current analog 911 infrastructure.

"The difference between when these services are working efficiently and when they are not has never been lost on me following my time as a law enforcement officer. NextGen 911 can provide Georgia citizens and first responders with accurate, real-time information. These services save lives every minute of every day. Emergencies can happen to every family at any time. I'm thankful to chair a committee dedicated to finding ways to efficiently implement this lifesaving technology and support the workers who keep our state safe and secure. That is what makes these conversations so important," said Sen. Bearden.

Sens. John Albers (R-Roswell), Randy Robertson (R-Cataula) and Kenya Wicks (D-Fayette) serve as members of the subcommittee. Sen. Albers chairs the Senate Committee on Public Safety and is a retired firefighter; Sen. Robertson is a retired police officer; and Sen. Wicks is a former Major in the United States Military. House Bill 423 took effect in July, establishing the language for the implementation of NextGen 911.
