READOUT: Ranking Member Shaheen’s Meeting with Republic of Korea President Lee Jae Myung

NEW YORK CITY-Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, joined Representative Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and Representative Young Kim (R-CA), official congressional delegate to the United Nations, for a meeting with Republic of Korea (ROK) President Lee on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week.

The Senator reaffirmed the strength of the U.S.-ROK alliance and its centrality to stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific as North Korea deepens its support for Russia's war in Ukraine and as China increases its aggressive behavior in the region. The Senator noted that cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea on security, economic resilience and people-to-people ties has never been more important. The Senator emphasized her commitment to continue working in Congress to ensure that the U.S.-ROK alliance remains strong. She also underscored the importance of deepening trilateral cooperation with Japan and ensuring that the United States and Republic of Korea stand united in defending the rules-based international order.
