Troup County...
Beginning Monday, 4/14/25, Quick Response will start a new project in Troup County. Crews will be installing new traffic signals at State Route 109 I-85 Northbound ramps.
Lane closures are possible but will be kept to a minimum. The contractor will have 120 days to complete. Drivers should use caution in the area and lane closures are to be expected.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) uses traffic signals to manage and regulate traffic flow, improve safety, and reduce congestion. GDOT's Regional Traffic Operations Program (RTOP) utilizes advanced signal timing and detection technologies to optimize traffic flow across multiple counties.
· Traffic Flow Optimization:
GDOT uses signal timing and detection technologies to adjust signal cycles and phasing based on real-time traffic conditions, maximizing capacity and minimizing delays.
· Safety Improvement:
Traffic signals help to separate conflicting traffic movements, reducing the likelihood of crashes, especially at intersections.
· Reducing Congestion:
By optimizing signal timing and using technologies like FYA signals, GDOT aims to reduce delays, back-ups, and idling, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and emissions.
· Monitoring and Maintenance:
GDOT utilizes a centralized software system to monitor traffic signals 24/7, quickly identifying and addressing any malfunctions or performance issues.
· Design and Permitting:
GDOT has established design guidelines and a permitting process for traffic signals on state routes, ensuring consistent and effective implementation.
· Collaboration:
GDOT works with local agencies through programs like the Regional Traffic Signal Operations (RTSO) contracts to enhance traffic signal operations across jurisdictional boundaries.
Advisory: Dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit, 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
