Cedar Rapids Animal Care & Control (CRACC) is preparing for an anticipated increase in animals entering the shelter and is inviting the community to help create space through adoption and fostering - including a special $25 adoption promotion in celebration of National Pet Day.
As part of its ongoing operations, CRACC carefully manages intake to maintain quality care standards and ensure every animal receives appropriate attention. Creating additional capacity in advance of changing intake needs is an important part of that process.
From April 9-11, in celebration of National Pet Day, adoption fees for cats and dogs will be reduced to just $25, making it easier for residents to provide a loving home while directly supporting the shelter's ability to respond to incoming animals.
"Adopting or fostering right now has an immediate impact," said Jamie Bowers, animal control manager for the City of Cedar Rapids. "National Pet Day is a great opportunity to welcome a new companion into your home while also helping us ensure we have space and resources available for animals that may arrive in the coming days."
CRACC has a variety of dogs and cats currently available for adoption, all of which are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ready for placement.
Community members are encouraged to visit the shelter at 7241 Washington View Parkway SW, located on the Kirkwood Community College campus, or view available pets online. CRACC is open Monday-Saturday from Noon-5 p.m., with staff and volunteers available to help match individuals and families with pets that fit their home and lifestyle.
Those not ready to adopt can also make a meaningful difference by fostering, which provides temporary care for animals and helps expand the shelter's capacity. These efforts are part of CRACC's ongoing commitment to balancing animal intake and outcomes while serving the Cedar Rapids community.
