Last night, on the eve of Affordable Care Act open enrollment and the expiration of SNAP benefits for November, Donald Trump hosted a "Great Gatsby"-themed Halloween party at Mar-a-Lago. Today, November 1, 22 million Americans will come face-to-face with skyrocketing healthcare costs for 2026, and 42 million Americans still face uncertainty around whether federal SNAP benefits will be distributed this month.
In response,DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
"It's lavish Great Gatsby parties and polished marble bathrooms for Donald Trump. It's empty fridges, tight household budgets, and layoffs for the rest of us. First, Trump sold out working families in exchange for tax cuts for his billionaire friends, and now he refuses to lift a finger to keep health care affordable for 22 million Americans and ensure 42 million Americans, including 16 million children, have food on their table. Last night, Trump made it even clearer that he doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself and his wealthy friends."
