Garbarino Applauds Nearly $140 Million in Federal Homeland Security Funding for New York.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, is applauding the announcement of nearly $140 million in federal funding to strengthen counterterrorism and emergency preparedness efforts across New York. The funding includes more than $1.8 Million for Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The funding, provided through FEMA's Homeland Security Grant Program and Emergency Management Performance Grant Program, will support law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management agencies with critical resources for training, equipment, planning, and emergency response.

"As we near the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, New York remains the top terror target in the world. DHS's counterterrorism and preparedness grants are essential to protecting Long Islanders from evolving threats and preparing for the future. I was proud to lead the effort to secure these critical resources for New York communities. As Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and as a Congressman representing a district forever marked by 9/11, I appreciate DHS's responsiveness in getting our state and local partners the tools they need to prevent acts of terror and keep our communities safe," said Chairman Andrew Garbarino.

As part of the funding announcement, Nassau County will receive $1,142,644, and Suffolk County will receive $740,787 through the State Homeland Security Program. In addition, the New York City metropolitan region will receive $92.2 million through the Urban Area Security Initiative to support critical anti-terrorism programs, while $2.7 million through Operation Stonegarden will strengthen coordination among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

The funding announcement follows Chairman Garbarino's questioning of former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem regarding proposed reductions to NYS homeland security grant funding. Furthermore, this funding reflects ongoing coordination between the House Homeland Security Committee and DHS to ensure high-risk communities like those in New York receive the resources they need to remain secure.

As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Garbarino has continued to advocate for the resources necessary to strengthen New York's security posture and ensure communities have the tools needed to prevent, prepare for, and respond to evolving threats.
