At the June 9, 2026, Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action on the regular agenda:
Administration - approved a private meeting to discuss security plans in consideration of the recent escalation of risk to the Board of County Commissioners on June 16, 2026, at 1 p.m. The meeting will take place in the McEaddy Conference Room at 301 N. Olive Avenue, 12th Floor in West Palm Beach, Florida. The following individuals will attend with the members of the BCC who are present at that time: Joseph Abruzzo, County Administrator; Patrick Rutter, Chief Deputy County Administrator; Tom Nadler, Deputy County Administrator; David Ottey, Chief Assistant County Attorney; Sheriff Ric Bradshaw; Gilbert Morales, and other essential security personnel.
The Board directed County Administration to schedule a workshop to discuss future capital projects. Several capital projects are currently in the planning stages including the South County Administrative Complex, Animal Care & Control Shelter expansion, Airport Center III (Tax Collector/Property Appraiser) and Governmental Center renovations. The County plans capital projects based on a pay as you ago method and projects are funded by multiple sources, including but not limited to, Ad Valorem property tax collections.
Airports - adopted a resolution providing for the creation of the Airport Community Advisory Committee for the Palm Beach County Park Airport. This committee will consist of 11 members appointed by the BCC and will serve in an advisory capacity on issues associated with aircraft noise at Palm Beach County Park Airport (LNA).
Approved a resolution to adopt a standard from the Airport Noise Monitoring Station Agreement; authorizing the County Administrator or designee to execute the standard agreement. The resolution adopts a new standard form agreement which authorizes the County to install portable noise monitoring equipment on private property with the consent of the property owner at no cost to Palm Beach County.
County Attorney - approved on preliminary reading permission to advertise for public hearing July 7, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. an ordinance of the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County pertaining to garbage and yard waste collection and amending the definition of the maximum allowable yard waste. The current maximum allowable yard waste in the garbage and yard waste collection ordinance of Palm Beach County is six (6) cubic yards or less.
Environmental Resources Management- Approved the renewal of the Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Trust Fund of the State of Florida Sovereignty Submerged Lands Easement for the maintenance of eight existing groins along with the beach in Ocean Ridge for a period beginning on June 7, 2021 and expiring on July 7, 2046 at no cost to the County.
Facilities Development and Operations- approved a contract with Chen More and Associates Inc. in the amount of $1,097,577.30 to provide professional architectural and engineering services for programming, design, permitting and construction for the Ocean Inlet Park Resiliency project to replace the existing seawall.
Fire Rescue- approved a waiver of the competitive solicitation process for professional services to be performed by Elite Medical Specialists, LLC, contractor, based upon the contractor's prior knowledge and demonstrated expertise in Medical Director Services for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue from 2021 through 2026.
Intergovernmental Affairs- approved, by a vote of 6-0, to hold a public hearing on June 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. to discuss an ordinance of the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County to increase the lobbyist registration fee to two hundred dollars ($200) per principal annually and providing for annual adjustments to the registration fee based on the consumer price index.
Medical Examiner's Office - approved a budget transfer of $184,363 in the General Fund to allocate funding to the Medical Examiner's Office for the purchase of 5 Chevrolet Equinox vehicles to support the medicolegal death investigations, scene response, operations, and related field duties.
Office of Financial Management- adopted a resolution calling for a bond referendum to be held on Nov. 3, 2026, seeking authorization of the issuance of the Palm Beach County General Obligation Bonds to be issued in one or more series for Parks improvement projects to pay for the cost of acquisition, construction, reconstruction, expansion and improvement and equipping various Palm Beach County Park facilities, not to exceed $280,000,000.
Adopted a resolution calling for a bond referendum to be held on Nov. 3, 2026, seeking authorization of the issuance of Palm Beach County General Obligation Bonds to be issued in one or more series. The Library District Bonds will be utilized to pay for the cost of acquisition, construction, reconstruction, expansion and improvements and equipping various Palm Beach County Libraries not to exceed $175,000,000.
Palm Tran- approved by a vote of 6-0, the emergency contract between the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners and First Transit, Inc.; and MV Transportation, Inc not to exceed $25,651,835 for a total of $50, 777, 828 and to extend the Emergency Contract end date to April 30, 2027 or upon the award of a new Paratransit Service Contract. A selection committee will select which vendor(s) to utilize for the provision of a new Paratransit Service.
Parks & Recreation - approved the Park Ranger Services Agreement with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office for the performance of park ranger services with law enforcement supervision in County-operated parks starting on Aug. 12, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2029 unless one party terminates the agreement.
Public Safety- approved a contract for professional consultation and Emergency Services in the areas of veterinary medicine with Veterinary Emergency Group, LLC in the amount of $410,000 to provide relief of overnight veterinary services at their facility, which began May 15, 2026, and will run through Sept. 30, 2029.
