Jakarta, 25 May 2026: ERIA President H.E. Tetsuya Watanabe paid a courtesy call on H.E. Lee Chul, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, reaffirming the strong partnership between ERIA and the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN. Ambassador Lee presented his credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN on 30 April 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm co-operation and exchange views on key regional priorities at a time of growing geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
President Watanabe and Ambassador Lee discussed the importance of strengthening ASEAN's resilience through deeper co-operation in areas such as energy security and supply chain resilience, while enhancing long-term preparedness against future shocks. The discussion also explored how ERIA can continue to serve as a platform for practical collaboration between ASEAN and its dialogue partners.
Ambassador Lee commended ERIA's timely and policy-relevant contributions to regional policymaking, particularly in addressing emerging challenges facing ASEAN. Both sides expressed a shared commitment to further strengthening co-operation in support of ASEAN's resilience, sustainable development, and regional integration agenda.
