Gov. Henry McMaster's Federal Major Disaster Declaration Approved

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Governor Henry McMaster announced today that his February 24, 2026, request for a Major Disaster Declaration, submitted in response to the January severe winter storm, has been approved by President Donald J. Trump.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized Public Assistance funding for Greenville, Oconee, and Pickens counties. This program provides reimbursement to government agencies and certain nonprofit organizations impacted by the January 24- 26, 2026, ice storm. Eligible expenses may include debris removal, emergency protective measures, repairs to public buildings and equipment, and restoration of public utilities. Additional information about FEMA's Public Assistance program can be found here.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) will host applicant briefings to guide potential applicants through the process and outline available assistance. Applicants must submit a Request for Public Assistance and document disaster-related damages. Following state review, FEMA determines final eligibility. SCEMD will administer the funds and distribute them to approved applicants.
