Launched in 1985, July marks the 40th anniversary of National Parks and Recreation Month - a time to continue celebrating the people and places that make our communities healthier, happier, and more connected.
Here in the City of Poughkeepsie, we recognize and honor the dedicated team behind our parks, pools, playgrounds, and public spaces - from lifeguards and landscapers to supervisors and seasonal workers. Their ongoing efforts provide the foundation for connection, wellness, and fun that reach across generations.
This year's national theme, *"Build Together, Play Together,"* is a reminder of the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals across the country - and the many volunteers and part-time staff - who help make recreation inclusive and accessible for all. In Poughkeepsie, this spirit is seen daily in field maintenance, dock restorations, pool improvements, and the care of our green spaces.
As part of this continuing celebration, we're excited to share an updated Parks & Recreation map (above), highlighting amenities across the city. Whether you're looking for a splash pad, picnic area, ball court, or scenic walking trail, the new map is your guide to enjoying everything our parks have to offer.
