The Minister for Policing and Communications, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, met with Rev. Mosese Cakau of the Assemblies of God Church, expressing gratitude for the church's ongoing community initiatives and reaffirming the need for stronger partnerships to address Fiji's growing drug crisis.
Minister Naivalurua acknowledged Fiji's vulnerability as a transit and distribution point for drugs and stressed the urgency for Government, churches, the vanua and communities to work together. He confirmed that the Fiji Police Force and the Republic of Fiji Military Forces are undertaking joint operations with an enhanced strategy to combat trafficking.
The Fiji Police Force remains committed to tackling the crisis through the DUAVATA framework by strengthening collaboration between the Vanua, Lotu and Government, while expanding awareness programs in schools and communities. With Fijian youth aged 18 to 30 among the most affected, families are being urged to take a more proactive role in prevention and early intervention.
The Minister emphasised that the fight against drugs requires both firm law enforcement and proactive community engagement, calling on churches to support awareness efforts and help safeguard lives. Government remains committed to a structured, sustainable approach to reducing drug supply, protecting communities and securing Fiji's future.
