The City of Napa is excited to announce that applications are now open for the Fall 2025 Napa City Academy (NCA), a free six-week program designed to help residents gain deeper insight into their local government operations, services and decision-making processes.
"Our Napa City Academy is a great way for residents to get involved, build civic pride and see how their local government works," said Mayor Scott Sedgley. "I encourage anyone interested in learning more about City services and how decisions are made to take part in this unique opportunity."
The comprehensive program will take place over six consecutive Wednesday evenings, from Sept. 3 through Oct. 8, with each session running from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy dinner, connect with fellow attendees and take part in presentations, interactive activities and Q&A sessions with City leadership.
"The Napa City Academy reflects our commitment to keeping the community informed and involved," said City Manager Steve Potter. "Past participants consistently tell us how much they value the behind-the-scenes look at City operations and the chance to connect with local staff and neighbors. It's a great way to learn how local government works and strengthen community ties."
The 2025 program will feature sessions covering all major aspects of running Napa's local government, including:
• General Government Overview (Sept. 3): An introduction to City administration, elected officials' roles and Napa's mission, values and climate action initiatives.
• Infrastructure (Sept. 10): Explore public works and utilities operations, including a tour of the Jamieson Canyon Water Treatment Plant.
• Development Services & Housing (Sept. 17): A comprehensive overview of economic development, building and planning services and housing programs.
• Parks & Recreation (September 24): Take a detailed look at the City's recreational facilities, programs and park maintenance operations.
• Public Safety (Oct. 1): Hear from both the Police and Fire departments, with in-depth presentations on community safety services and emergency response.
• Budget & Finance (Oct. 8): Round out the Academy with a presentation on City finances, budget allocation and fiscal planning and an executive team roundtable.
Academy participants will have the opportunity to meet City Council members, department heads and staff while learning how municipal decisions are made and how City funds are allocated. The program includes facility tours, interactive activities and role-playing exercises designed to provide hands-on understanding of local government operations.
The program is open to all Napa residents age 18 and older. Space is limited and applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
