CORPUS CHRISTI, TX-At today's regularly scheduled City Council meeting, Mayor Paulette Guajardo and the Council approved several appointments to board positions.
Four positions were available for the Library Board. The City received 18 applications. The Council voted to appoint Carroll Matthews, Jennifer Anderson and Alice Hawkins to the Library Board. The fourth position will be filled at the February 11 City Council meeting.
The Library Board serves as an advisor to the City Council on the policies and operations of the library. It makes recommendations to the City Council on policies such as programs, facilities, and selection of resources.
The Library Board consists of nine positions appointed by the Council. Their terms last two years or until a successor is appointed.
The Council also reappointed Gabe Guerra to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority of Nueces County, Texas. Guerra will serve a three-year term through December 2027. He was first appointed in January 2022. Guerra is the President and CEO of Kleberg Bank.
The Corpus Christi City Council appoints three of the seven Port Commissioners.
Port Commission efforts are directed toward encouraging industrial expansion, attracting new cargo, building and maintaining public terminals, setting operational policy, and cooperating with the Federal Government as a local sponsor in maintaining and further improving vital navigation channels.
"The City of Corpus Christi thrives when dedicated community members step up to serve on our boards and commissions," Mayor Paulette Guajardo said. "Today, the City Council had the important responsibility of appointing individuals to key positions that help shape policies and initiatives across our city. We are grateful for their willingness to serve and look forward to the positive impact they will make."
