DCCC Chair Statement on Indigenous Peoples’ Day

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene released the following statement recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day:

"Indigenous Peoples' Day is an opportunity for us to unite in celebration of Indigenous communities, their diverse cultures, and the incredible contributions they have made to the fabric of our country.

"In Congress, House Democrats have worked to formally recognize this day as a federal holiday to both acknowledge the injustices and history of violence Indigenous communities have faced and to celebrate our shared commitment to preserving their rights, honoring their culture, and making a more inclusive society for all people. When we retake the House, we will continue to fight for formal observance of this important day.

"The DCCC honors the Nacotchtank People, upon whose ancestral lands the DCCC now works, as well as the neighboring Piscataway and Pamunkey Peoples. We strive to honor their legacy - and that of all Indigenous peoples - as we fight for our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, and a better future for our families."
