The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, will travel, tomorrow, Tuesday 12 May 2026, to Brussels, in order to attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council, in its Defence Ministers' configuration.
During the morning session, the Defence Ministers will be called upon to ratify the total approach for the reinforcement of the European Defence Agency, and approve the first phase of its application. They will also be briefed on the update of the Threat Analysis procedure.
A working lunch will follow, wherein the Defence Ministers will discuss the situation in Ukraine.
After the lunch, the Ministers will examine the situation in the Middle East and its impact on European security. In this framework, there will be a presentation of the results of operation EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, and the matter of EU member-states reinforcing the operation will be put forth. Furthermore, a discussion will be held concerning the diplomatic and operational initiatives undertaken for freedom of navigation of the Straits of Hormuz.
At the evening session, the Defence Ministers will discuss the implementation of the Agenda for Defence Readiness, and will exchange views on the effort towards the establishment of a common defence marketplace and the revision of the EU Directive on joint procurement.
