National Pizza Day: How to Properly Dispose of Pizza Boxes

Did you know?

The average American consumes about 46 slices of pizza per year, and Super Bowl Sunday is historically the biggest day for pizza sales contributing to a 35 percent spike in deliveries. This year Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 8) falls one day ahead of National Pizza Day (Feb. 9).

All this pizza talk has Solid Waste Services wondering... do you know how to dispose of your pizza boxes?

Pizza box bottoms are typically greasy, which eliminates the possibility of recycling the cardboard. However, pizza box tops usually remain grease free. Many boxes are perforated allowing you to remove the top for recycling, while the bottom can be put in your garbage bin. If no perforation, just cut the top to remove!

Remember to know before you throw this National Pizza Day!
