Crawley Borough Council appoints Cabinet member for Public Protection

Crawley Borough Council has appointed Councillor Julian Charatan as the Cabinet member for Public Protection.

Councillor Charatan, who has represented Ifield ward since 2023, takes on responsibility for the Public Protection portfolio, which includes services that help keep the borough safe, including environmental health, licensing and community safety.

The appointment follows confirmation by the Leader of the Council earlier this week.

Councillor Michael Jones, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said:

I am pleased to appoint Councillor Charatan as Cabinet member for Public Protection. He brings a strong commitment to serving our communities and I look forward to working with him to continue delivering services that help keep Crawley safe. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Yasmin Khan, for her dedication and her commitment to the role.

It is an honour to take on the role of Cabinet member for Public Protection. I know how important feeling safe is to our residents and how anti social behaviour (ASB) can affect their everyday lives. I am committed to working with partners to help reduce any ASB in the borough. We have a rich history of unity across our diverse communities here in Crawley. This was marked by the Unity events that have been held for the past two years. I want to build on that unity and no matter the political beliefs held, there is no room in Crawley for racism and hate. This summer we are holding the Crawley Fusion Mela and I look forward to seeing all of our communities, celebrating what makes Crawley such a great place to live.
