On 10 August, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the opening ceremony of the Photo Exhibition on New Zealanders represented by Rewi Alley in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Around 100 guests were present, including Mike Dawson, National President and Auckland Branch President of the New Zealand China Friendship Society, Deng Bangzhen, Rewi Alley's adopted son, and friends within the consular district.
In his speech, Consul General Chen noted that the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a crucial part of the World Anti-Fascist War, earning widespread sympathy and support from the international community, including New Zealand. Although China and New Zealand are separated by thousands of miles, they share a common pursuit of justice, peace, and independence. He expressed confidence that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China-New Zealand relations would maintain a sound momentum of development, and their traditional friendship would shine with new vitality in the new era.
The exhibition featured 80 historical photographs, images, and artworks, reviewing key moments of China's War of Resistance, as well as the moving deeds of Rewi Alley and other New Zealand friends who devoted themselves to the Chinese revolution and the war effort. It highlighted the deep bonds forged between the peoples of the two countries during the wartime years.
