Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Harry Theoharis, participated in the Forum titled "Greece and the Czech Republic: Unlocking Potential", organized by the Embassy of Greece in Prague.
During his intervention in the session "Strategic Convergence in Unsettled Times: Energy Security, Defense Industry, and Regional Stability", Mr. Theoharis underlined that Greece and the Czech Republic, as partners in the European Union and allies in NATO, possess significant potential for further strengthening their strategic and economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy, defence industry, technology and investment.
The Deputy Minister stressed that today's international environment renders energy security, economic resilience and industrial cooperation interconnected priorities for Europe. He referred to the impact of geopolitical tensions on global supply chains and energy markets, highlighting the need to diversify energy sources and routes, while also strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy.
Mr. Theoharis highlighted Greece's enhanced role as a pillar of energy security and a connectivity hub for Southeastern and Central Europe through projects such as the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB), the Alexandroupolis LNG floating terminal, and the Vertical Corridor.
Particular reference was also made to the prospects for Greece-Czech cooperation in the defense industry sector. The Deputy Minister welcomed the cooperation between the Czech CSG Group and Hellenic Defense Systems, as well as the strategic cooperation between the defense industry associations of the two countries, underlining that Greece can make a substantial contribution to European defense production supply chains through specialized industrial production and expertise.
At the same time, he underscored the importance of regional stability, adherence to international law and strengthening European cohesion in the face of contemporary geopolitical challenges. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Theoharis noted that Greece seeks to be a reliable partner, a pillar of stability and a bridge for energy, trade and investment between the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe, expressing his commitment to the further deepening of cooperation with the Czech Republic for the benefit of a safer, more competitive and more resilient Europe.
In the context of the Forum, Mr. Theoharis presented an honorary plaque to the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic as a token of gratitude for its assistance during the major wildfires that have affected Greece in recent years, underscoring the importance of European solidarity and practical cooperation between the two countries in times of crisis.
On the previous day, the Deputy Minister also participated in the opening of the exhibition "K. or the Collective Terror of the Individual - 17 Greek Artists on Franz Kafka", which will be hosted in Prague for one month. The exhibition is organized on the initiative of the Embassy of Greece in Prague, in cooperation with The Other Arcadia Foundation, highlighting culture as a bridge for dialogue and creative collaboration between Greece and the Czech Republic.
