June 9, 2026- At 6:28 this morning, firefighters responded to 623 East Sanson Ave following reports of a house fire with occupants possibly trapped inside. Engine 15 from the Hillyard neighborhood arrived within four minutes and found heavy fire at the rear of the house, which had spread to the neighboring residence. Because of the fire's extension and ongoing reports of people inside, a second alarm was requested for additional resources.

Firefighters quickly deployed a hoseline to the backyard and found most of the fire on the exterior. Additional crews entered the home to search for victims. It was later confirmed that all occupants had evacuated safely before our arrival, including one adult who exited through a small, non-egress basement window. The fire was brought under control within ten minutes.

The fire remains under investigation due to suspicious circumstances, with the Spokane Police Department also involved. Fire investigators received assistance from Spokane County Fire District 4. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was contacted to assist four displaced adults.
