TAMPA, FL. (JULY 2 2026) - - Tampa Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred this morning in the 11600 block of N. Florida Ave.
At approximately 7:13 am, Tampa Police responded to the report of a severe crash involving two vehicles. Preliminary information provided to investigators suggest that a blue 2022 Tesla was traveling northbound on Florida Ave at a high rate of speed at the same time a 2024 Volkswagen traveling southbound was attempting a left-hand turn to enter a local dealership. The resulting collision occurred on the passenger side of the Volkswagen, which caused the vehicle to overturn.
The driver and sole occupant of the Volkswagen, a white male in his mid-30s, suffered critical injuries. Despite the life-saving efforts provided by arriving officers, the was man was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and sole occupant of the Tesla, a Hispanic male in his early-20s, was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
The northbound lanes of Florida Ave between Fowler and Bougainvillea Avenues were closed for several hours as investigators gathered evidence. All lanes have since been reopened to traffic.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation as detectives work to confirm the specifics that led to this tragic fatality and determine what, if any, charges may be applicable.
