RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia Department of Education announced today that, Cynthia Peck, a Central Elementary School Reading Specialist, has been named the 2027 Region 5 Teacher of the Year-recognizing her leadership in literacy education and her dedication to helping students become confident readers.

"Mrs. Peck is an inspiring example of dedication, expertise and passion in her work with students and families," said Fluvanna County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Peter Gretz. "I am grateful for the engaging commitment she contributes and encourages and am honored to work alongside her."

Outside the classroom, Peck serves on the board of the Fluvanna Dolly Parton Imagination Library, helping provide books to young children across the community and fostering a love of reading from an early age.

"Cynthia Peck's passion for literacy and strong literacy instruction has transformed the lives of countless students in Fluvanna," said Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jenna Conway. "Reading opens doors for students in every subject area. Mrs. Peck's leadership in classrooms, meeting with peers, and at Imagination Library ensures that both students and teachers have the tools and support they need to build strong literacy skills."
