Research completed by Synakis' Mickael Dang, Molly Shoichet, and co-authors on a long-acting treatment for glaucoma has been published in Advanced Materials.
Dang et al. developed the treatment by embedding drug-rich nanoparticles called colloidal drug aggregates (CDAs) into Synakis' ocular biomaterial to enable long-acting controlled release of timolol-a beta-blocker used to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients. Non-invasive administration of the formulation into the subconjunctival space of rodent eyes enabled a prolonged IOP-lowering effect for up to 8 weeks.
This research is the basis of Synakis' pipeline product SNK-225 for the treatment of glaucoma.
