Rep. Gabe Vasquez Works for Economic Growth, Housing Affordability, and Immigration and Border Security Solutions in Deming

DEMING, N.M. - On May 27, 2026, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02) spent the day in Deming meeting with local business owners, workers, community leaders, and residents to discuss economic growth, housing affordability, agriculture, and his commonsense immigration and border security solutions for southern New Mexico.

The Congressman's time in Deming included a tour of Luna Rossa Winery to discuss the state's burgeoning wine industry, a visit on housing affordability with manufactured housing producer Solitaire Homes, and a community town hall focused on immigration and border security issues.

Supporting New Mexico's Growing Wine Industry

Rep. Vasquez began the day at Luna Rossa Winery, where he toured the vineyard alongside winery leaders and New Mexico agriculture stakeholders and discussed the state of New Mexico's wine industry. During the visit, winery leaders shared that New Mexico's wine industry - the nation's oldest - is growing, noted the importance of federal grants for economic stability and growth, and outlined concerns, including labor issues.

During the meeting, local business owners and leaders also thanked the Congressman for his support of the Farm Bill, which just passed out of the House with bipartisan support. The Farm Bill granted specialty crop growers, including New Mexico grape growers, $1 billion to protect their crops and supported critical programs to help these producers stay competitive amidst instability caused by climate change and the President's trade wars.

Fighting for Affordable Housing in Southern New Mexico

Later in the day, Rep. Vasquez met with staff and toured Solitaire Homes' factory to discuss efforts to boost New Mexico's housing supply and address the housing affordability crisis. During the visit, the Congressman met with employees and company leadership to discuss housing demand, manufactured housing production, and federal efforts to make homeownership more affordable for hardworking New Mexicans.

Rep. Vasquez also highlighted his support of the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which recently passed the House. The bill marks the biggest win for housing affordability in a generation, and it includes investments in the construction of additional affordable housing projects to boost housing stock and bring down prices, provisions to protect everyday homebuyers from Wall Street corporations, expanded secure financing options to help New Mexicans buy a home, and a requirement that HUD help manufactured and mobile home manufacturers boost production.

He also spoke about his Keep Mobile Homes Affordable Act, which cracks down on corporate landlords engaging in predatory price gouging in the mobile home market and helps ensure manufactured housing remains an affordable option for New Mexico families. In New Mexico, one in six homes is a mobile or manufactured home.

Hosting a Community Town Hall on Immigration and Border Security

Rep. Vasquez concluded the day by hosting a public town hall in Deming to discuss the need for border security and commonsense immigration reform. The Congressman heard residents' concerns and laid out his New American Immigration Plan - a roadmap of balanced, commonsense reforms to secure our borders, expand legal pathways, and strengthen our economy.

Residents asked questions about border security, ICE detention facilities, and more, and Rep. Vasquez shared updates on his work to strengthen border security through smart technology such as aerostats and autonomous surveillance towers, bipartisan bills to combat cartels, and expanded resources for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to enhance cargo scanning capabilities at ports of entry. The Congressman also shared details on his legislation aimed at creating pathways to legal status for long-term workers in essential industries - including agriculture and construction.

"I appreciated the opportunity to listen to the questions, concerns, and suggestions regarding border security, immigration, and the economy at my town hall in Deming tonight," said Vasquez. "Folks want commonsense reform to fix a deeply broken system that has been politicized for far too long. That's why I'll continue to lead on providing practical immigration solutions in Congress that strengthen our economy, protect our border, and create a more fair, just, and functioning immigration system that is reflective of our American values."
