Temporary Campaign & Event Signs

As the June 2 Primary Election approaches, temporary campaign signs may be displayed more frequently around Irvine. To help keep our community safe and visually-appealing, please follow the rules for Temporary Non-Commercial Signs (Sign Type #107).

When Can Signs Go Up?

  • For the June 2 Election: County ballots are mailed starting May 4, 2026. Candidates can begin displaying their signs immediately.
  • General Rule: Signs related to a specific event can be installed up to 39 days prior to and must be removed within 10 days after the event.
  • Non-Event Signs: These may stay up for a maximum of 39 days.

Where Can Signs Be Placed?

  • Private Property: Allowed with the owner's permission.
  • Public Right-of-Way: Allowed; they must be at least 12 inches apart and cannot be attached to City property (utility poles, trees, or traffic signals).
  • Stay Clear: To keep drivers safe, signs cannot block "sight distance triangles" or obstruct the view of traffic signals and regulatory signs.
  • District Elections: Signs are only permitted within the specific District where the election is taking place.
