Route 124 to close in multiple locations next week…

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Contractors working with the Missouri Department of Transportation plan to close Missouri Route 124 in multiple locations next week to replace culverts. The first closures are:

  • April 6: Boone County, from Route NN to Route YY.
  • April 7: Howard County, from Route A to County Road 405. This will include restricted access to and from Route 124 at County Road 105.

The roadway is set to close at 7 a.m. and reopen by 5 p.m. each day. Depending on construction progress and weather, additional closures may be scheduled later in the week. Changeable message boards are in place to alert drivers of the upcoming closures.

During the closures, local property owners will be able to access driveways, but through traffic will need to seek an alternate route.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

During its November 2025 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $6,650,955.26 contract to Christensen Construction Co. for a multi-route project that includes resurfacing Route 124 from Fayette to Hallsville. The scheduled culvert replacements will help prepare the roadway for resurfacing.
