Overnight Lane and Full Ramp Closures Along I-580 Near The Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

Caltrans District 4 will perform overnight lane striping and K-rail preparation work on westbound Interstate 580 (I-580) near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Toll Plaza. This work is necessary to safely prepare the toll plaza area for continued construction activities.

Motorists should expect a reduced speed limit through the work zone.

Closure Details

Full Closure - Stenmark Drive On-Ramp to WB I-580

  • Beginning at 5:00 AM, Monday, March 2, 2026
  • Through 11:59 PM Friday, March 5, 2026 (tentative)

Westbound I-580 - Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Toll Plaza

  • Monday through Friday beginning March 12,2026
  • 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Multiple rolling toll lane and lane closures
  • Continuing through March 2026

Eastbound and Westbound I-580 between the Richmond San Rafael Bridge and Bayview Avenue

  • Monday through Friday beginning March 15,2026
  • 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Multiple rolling toll lane and lane closures
  • Continuing through March 2026

Work is expected to continue along I-580 in both directions in Contra Costa County between the Richmond San Rafael Bridge and Bayview Avenue through Spring 2027. Stay informed, sign up for updates on the Richmond San Rafael Bridge Open Road Tolling Project.

Detour Information for Stenmark Drive on ramp to WB-I580:

  • From Stenmark Dr. Entrance to Westbound I-580
  • Go east on Stenmark Drive
  • Take on-ramp to Eastbound I-580
  • Take off-ramp to Canal Boulevard
  • Go northbound on Canal Boulevard
  • Take Canal Boulevard on-ramp onto Westbound I-580

Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will provide advance notice for motorists traveling in the area.

Drivers may experience minor delays and are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time.
