The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) hosted a webinar examining how evolving EU policies are shaping the electrification of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) - a vital sector for Europe's economy, logistics and public services.
Against the backdrop of tightening CO₂ targets, experts and manufacturers discussed whether current market conditions and policy frameworks are sufficient to accelerate the transition of vans towards zero-emission mobility.
The webinar featured insights from Rosanne Vanpée (Transport & Mobility Leuven), Pierre Cognet (Stellantis), Andrew Johnson (Ford Motor Company) and Maria Linkova-Nijs (ACEA), who explored the interplay between regulation, infrastructure deployment and affordability in achieving electrification goals.
Discussions highlighted that despite growing model availability, electric van adoption remains below required levels, hindered by limited charging infrastructure, high energy costs, and uneven fiscal incentives. Participants agreed that targeted, predictable policies and coordinated investment are essential to make zero-emission vans a viable choice for businesses.
As Europe pushes forward on its climate objectives, ensuring that policy ambition aligns with operational realities will be key to keeping the van sector on track in the road to climate-neutral transport.
