Auckland, New Zealand, 13th January, 2024 - Federal Express Corporation, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., and one of the world's largest express logistics companies, announced the addition of 10 new electric vehicles (EV) to its fleet in New Zealand. The EVs will be used in the company's pickup and delivery operations within high-traffic areas in Auckland. FedEx will deploy the LDV eDeliver 9, which features zero-tailpipe emissions and can cover 200 kilometres on a full charge. This range, combined with the EV charging stations installed at FedEx facilities in Auckland, ensures that the vehicles can easily operate a full day's route, making them an efficient choice for last-mile delivery solutions.
"Today marks an important moment in our operations in New Zealand," said Stephen William, Senior Manager of Operations, at FedEx New Zealand. "By integrating EVs into our fleet, we are taking tangible steps to help reduce the impact of our operations on the environment while also steering the industry towards a more sustainable model of delivery and logistics."
As more consumers are shopping online and with sustainability factors influencing their decisions, integrating EVs into FedEx operations in New Zealand helps meet the evolving preferences of customers.
The deployment of EVs in New Zealand contributes towards the company's goal of carbon neutral global operations by 2040.FedEx is taking a phased approach to vehicle electrification and, by 2030, strives to purchase exclusively zero-tailpipe emissions vehicles for its owned parcel pickup and delivery fleet. The company aims to have all parcel pickup and delivery vehicles be zero-tailpipe emissions models by 2040.
Beyond vehicle electrification, FedEx is focused on improving the efficiency of fleets, fuels, and facilities across its integrated air-ground network. This includes initiatives like aircraft modernisation, fuel saving efforts, and renewable energy investments. The company also provides solutions to customers to help align their shipping activities with their own sustainability objectives, like packaging solutions and emissions reporting tools.
