Baruch College sophomore Oliver Saget ('27) was chosen to participate in the New York Collegiate Institute, a mentoring and professional development program that prepares the "nation's best and brightest African American male college students to use their extraordinary talents" to "do extraordinary things."

Saget, an aspiring entrepreneur, is the first Baruch College student selected for this competitive program.

"I am excited for this program because it is an invaluable opportunity to be around like-minded, ambitious men of color that I could connect and grow with," says Saget, a finance major at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business with an interdisciplinary minor with honors in NYC studies.

Networking and Professional Development Workshops

The Collegiate Institute, offered by the Institute for Responsible Citizenship, features five sessions on Saturdays per academic semester that consists of private meetings with influential leaders, comprehensive leadership and professional development workshops, and an annual conference to network with collegiate institutes scholars across the U.S.

Saget is looking forward to forming relationships with fellow scholars in the program.

"It is a collection of talented individuals who truly want to see each other succeed and embody an 'iron sharpens iron' mentality," Saget states. "Interacting with them has allowed me to think expansively and adopt a more open mindset beyond the worlds of finance and business."

Entrepreneurial Aspirations

Saget seeks to be an entrepreneur, and he believes this program will help him achieve this career goal.

"The Collegiate Institute exposes me to similarly determined individuals who continuously motivate me to pursue my goals," Saget mentions. "I can also learn topics and perspectives from them that I would not have otherwise. Lastly, the network is of immeasurable value, which I look forward to contributing to and being a part of as I progress professionally."

About The Regional Institute Programs

The Collegiate Institute regional program began in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2016. The program's success allowed it to expand to other colleges and universities throughout the state, including Durham and Greensboro.

In January 2021, The Institute for Responsible Citizenship launched the New York Collegiate Institute. This project is sponsored by Select Equity Group, a global investment firm.

The program is also currently taking place in Atlanta.
