FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sacramento - Following Gov. Gavin Newsom's signing of $2.5 billion in relief to support response and recovery efforts for the Los Angeles fires, League of California Cities Executive Director and CEO Carolyn Coleman issued the statement below:
"Cal Cities is grateful for the Governor and Legislature's swift action to provide immediate resources to help our Southern California communities respond to and recover from the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County.
In disasters of this magnitude, no single entity can manage the response alone. Cal Cities is committed to a strong local, state, and federal partnership to protect and rebuild the communities our residents call home, and today's investments are a critical first step.
But the road ahead is long. The wildfires have left thousands of Californians homeless, compounding our existing housing and homelessness crisis. We will work with the Governor and Legislature to ensure we face these challenges head-on in this year's state budget."
Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials.
