Brenda Janotha Secures HRSA Award to Boost Rural Nursing Education

Stony Brook School of Nursing Associate Dean Brenda Janotha has secured a key federal award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Through the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Retention - Transition to Practice Program (NEPQR-TPP), Janotha will receive $2.9 million over four years to fund her Rural Integration & Success for Emerging (RISE) Nurses Pathway project.

RISE seeks to expand the supply of bachelor's-prepared registered nurses, build a sustainable rural faculty and preceptor pipeline, and enhance clinical training capacity through structured, competency-based transition-to-practice education.

The project will partner with Eastern Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) to strengthen academic-clinical practice integration, advance health equity, and improve care delivery in communities of need by expanding learning opportunities on the east end of Long Island.

"RISE represents a transformative investment in the future of nursing and rural health care," said Janotha.
