Minot State University's Department of Nursing is enhancing its simulation learning experiences through the donation of two ventilators from Trinity Health, providing students with valuable hands-on experience with equipment used in clinical settings.
The Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, donated by Trinity Health's Respiratory Therapy team, have reached the end of their service life for hospital use but will continue to serve an important purpose in preparing future nurses. The equipment will allow Minot State nursing students to become more familiar with ventilator technology and practice patient care in a simulated clinical environment.
"We are very grateful to Trinity Health and its Respiratory Therapy team for donating ventilators to our nursing program," said Amy Lee, chair of the Minot State Department of Nursing. "This equipment will provide our students with valuable hands-on experience and strengthen the realism of our simulation learning experiences."
Access to clinical equipment in an academic setting allows students to develop familiarity and confidence before encountering similar technology in professional practice. Incorporating the ventilators into simulation exercises will help Minot State nursing students strengthen their clinical skills and prepare for the complexities of patient care.
The donation follows Trinity Health's receipt of new ventilators for its Respiratory Therapy team, made possible through support from the Trinity Health Foundation. Rather than discarding retired equipment, Trinity Health is extending its usefulness by supporting nursing education in the region.
In addition to Minot State, Trinity Health donated ventilators to the nursing program at Dakota College at Bottineau as part of its commitment to strengthening healthcare education and preparing the next generation of caregivers.
The partnership reflects Minot State and Trinity Health's shared commitment to supporting healthcare education and developing a skilled nursing workforce to serve northwestern North Dakota and the surrounding region.
