SIUE Welcomes more than 140 New International Students
A total of 140 new international students enrolled in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville spring session, according to Cheryl Borowiak, interim executive director of the Office of International Affairs. To date, SIUE has 825 international students, representing 69 countries, enrolled for the spring semester.
"The Office of International Affairs has added more programming for students to encourage early involvement on campus such as the Global Cougar Quest, which helps new Cougars make the most of their university experience," said Borowiak. "A new international student handbook was also created as a resource guide."
Despite the major winter snowstorm on Jan. 6 that broke snowfall records in the Midwest, approximately 107 new international students attended the spring new student orientation and welcome party hosted by the Office of International Affairs and International Admissions staff.
"We have been averaging an enrollment of 800-900 international students for the past couple of years, which is up from an enrollment of 375 students in the spring of 2021," said Borowiak.
