That time of year has arrived when San Rafael's two community gardens begin to come alive again, as volunteers prepare for the upcoming planting season. Both the Canal Garden and the Terra Linda Garden were full of energy last week, with gardeners gathering for two dedicated workdays-one on the weekend and another during the week.
At the Terra Linda Garden, volunteers concentrated on clearing out invasive Italian arum from various areas, along with tackling weeds and getting pathways ready for fresh wood chips. Meanwhile, gardeners at the Canal Garden focused on weeding several plots in preparation for new gardeners, tending to shared beds, and giving the garden shed and greenhouse a thorough spring cleaning.
More than just maintenance, these workdays offered a chance for people to connect. It's a joyful scene-gardeners laughing, meeting one another, and coming together in a shared effort to nurture their community spaces.
