North Suffolk Cardiology Expands Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (ICR) Program with New Medford Location

Medford, NY, July 29, 2026 - North Suffolk Cardiology, a practice of Stony Brook Medicine Community Medical Group, has expanded its Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (ICR) Program with the opening of a new location in Medford. Originally the first-of-its-kind on Long Island, North Suffolk Cardiology is further expanding its reach to make this evidence-based cardiac rehabilitation model more accessible to patients on the South Shore.

The ICR Program is designed to support patients recovering from a cardiac event or procedure by combining medically supervised exercise with comprehensive lifestyle education focused on cardiovascular well-being.

"We were the first to bring this level of intensive cardiac rehabilitation to Long Island, and this expansion is about thoughtfully expanding that model to more communities," said Neal Patel, MD, Medical Director of the ICR Program at North Suffolk Cardiology. "By growing our geographic footprint and increasing capacity, we're making it easier for patients to access a program that delivers meaningful, lasting improvements in heart health."

Unlike traditional cardiac rehabilitation programs that focus primarily on exercise, the Pritikin model integrates extensive lifestyle education at every visit. Patients work closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes a cardiac nurse, exercise physiologist, dietitian and licensed social worker to develop individualized care plans and tools to make lasting changes in nutrition, physical activity and stress management for long-term cardiovascular health.
