Congressman Takano Presents $850,000 Check for New Fire Apparatus in Perris

PERRIS, Calif. (June 16, 2026) - City officials joined Congressman Mark Takano and Riverside County First District Supervisor Jose Medina today for a ceremonial check presentation recognizing $850,000 in federal Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding secured for the City of Perris to assist with the acquisition of a new tiller ladder truck for the Perris Fire Department.

The federal investment will help enhance emergency response capabilities, improve firefighter safety, and strengthen the City's ability to protect the lives and property of Perris residents.

A tiller ladder truck is a specialized fire apparatus equipped with an extended aerial ladder and a unique steering system that allows it to maneuver through tight streets, residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, school campuses, and other areas that can be difficult for traditional ladder trucks to access. Its increased mobility and operational flexibility make it a valuable asset for emergency response throughout the community.

"Today's check presentation represents more than an investment in equipment-it represents an investment in the safety of our community," said Mayor Michael M. Vargas. "On behalf of the City of Perris, I want to sincerely thank Congressman Mark Takano for his leadership and for securing this funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 federal appropriations process. Public safety remains one of our highest priorities, and this investment will help ensure our firefighters have the equipment they need to respond quickly, safely, and effectively when our community needs them most."

Congressman Takano said the funding reflects a commitment to supporting first responders and strengthening local emergency response capabilities.

"Public safety begins with making sure our first responders have the tools and resources they need to protect our communities," said Congressman Mark Takano. "I was proud to advocate for this funding on behalf of the City of Perris and grateful for the partnership of local leaders who continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of their residents. This investment will help strengthen emergency response capabilities and ensure the Perris community remains safe for years to come."

The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bill through the Community Project Funding process and was formally recognized during a ceremonial check presentation attended by local, county, and federal officials. Once acquired, the tiller ladder truck will enhance the City's emergency response fleet and provide additional capabilities for structure fires, rescue operations, and other emergency incidents throughout Perris.
