Stafford County is beginning construction next week on the Route 1 and Courthouse Road Intersection Improvement Project. The $30 million project will widen Route 1 and provide improvements to the roadway, as well as at the intersections of Route 1 with Courthouse Road and Bells Hill Road/Hope Road. Phase 1 of the project will continue until December 2025 and will operate on a night work schedule. There will be a southbound right lane closure on Route 1 during this phase during allowable lane closure hours.

Construction activities during Phase 1 on southbound Route 1 include installing erosion and sediment controls, installing a storm sewer, widening SB Route 1, building a concrete sidewalk and installing a traffic signal at the Hope Road/Bells Hill Road and Rte. 1 intersection.
This project is part of Stafford County's current $70 Million investment in transportation improvements across the community, which will enhance roadway safety, improve accessibility and reduce congestion.
