Drivers will also have one less stop light at 2700 West this week, as traffic will shift to new interchange in Bluffdale
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Sept. 25, 2025) - The Utah Department of Transportation will mark two major milestones on the Bangerter Highway project on Monday, Sept. 29, with the reopening of east and westbound travel on 13400 South and the opening of the new 2700 West interchange in Bluffdale.
On Friday, Sept. 26 at 10 p.m. to Monday, Sept. 29 at 5 a.m., crews will close eastbound travel on 13400 South from Old Liberty Way to the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 13400 South for final prep work for the reopening. This closure will also prevent eastbound 13400 South drivers from using the on-ramp to southbound Bangerter Highway. Drivers will be detoured onto Old Liberty Way.
On the same weekend, crews will also shift traffic onto the new interchange at 2700 West in Bluffdale, giving drivers one less stoplight to wait at.
UDOT is in the home stretch of upgrading intersections on Bangerter Highway into freeway-style interchanges. Once 4700 South, 9800 South, 13400 South and 2700 West interchanges are complete, UDOT estimates that drivers will save eight minutes of travel time.
"Getting 13400 South open in both directions gives people back valuable time in their day," UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart said. "It's another step in making Bangerter Highway a reliable, connected route for the whole southwest valley."
East and westbound travel at 13400 South will also restore important business connections along Bangerter Highway, a main corridor linking destinations such as Mountain View Village, Jordan Landing, The District and Salt Lake City International Airport.
"Reopening 13400 South makes it easier for our shoppers, employees and neighbors to get to Mountain View Village," Mountain View Village General Manager Heather Nash said. "It reconnects us with the rest of the southwest valley and strengthens our ties to surrounding communities."
Before construction began, Bangerter Highway carried an average of 62,000 drivers per day. By 2050, that number is projected to more than double to 128,000, showing the need for a highway that can handle more traffic without stoplights.
When the interchanges fully open later this year, Bangerter Highway will be an entirely free-flowing highway from the intersection of Interstate 15 in Draper to 4100 South in West Valley City.
Construction on all four interchanges is expected to wrap up by the end of October.
