WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Hillary Scholten (D-MI-03) announced the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) will receive $750,000 in federal support through the Community Project Funding (CPF) process. The funding will be used to purchase advanced manufacturing training equipment for high school students and adult learners. Congresswoman Scholten spoke in Muskegon last month to celebrate the funding.
"I'm thrilled to announce this Community Project Funding award of three quarters of a million dollars for the MAISD, " said Rep. Scholten. "This project will expand access to in-demand manufacturing careers, strengthen the talent pipeline for local defense and aerospace employers, and drive real economic mobility in our communities. In Muskegon, we are building solutions and strengthening partnerships between schools, nonprofits, businesses, and government to make sure no one gets left behind, and I'm proud to be your federal partner."
"This investment is a game-changer for our students and our community," said MAISD Superintendent Randy Lindquist. "Our mission is to ensure every student in Muskegon County can maximize their potential and discover their purpose. This funding provides a distinct competitive advantage by allowing us to launch a program that is linked to high-need, high-paying jobs in our region."
Specifically, the funding will be used to equip the Career Tech Center and Goodwill workforce programs with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, welding equipment, robotics trainers, and precision tools. The overarching goal is to expand access to in-demand manufacturing careers, support local defense and aerospace employers, and drive economic mobility in Muskegon County.
Each year, Congress considers appropriations bills that fund the federal government, and Community Project Funding (CPF) is part of that process. The House Appropriations Committee allows Members of Congress to request these resources for a limited number of local projects, which reflects Rep. Scholten's ongoing work to bring federal investment back to Michigan's Third Congressional District.
