In these two lectures, Dr. Smith will share theoretical and practical approaches to translation and adaptation for theatre based on his scholarly and creative work as a dramaturg. The first lecture will be an introduction to his current book project, "Dramaturgies of Translation," which covers a variety of canonical authors including Chekhov, Euripides, Molière and Shakespeare. The second lecture offers examples from two recent projects involving theatre, music and adaptation: "Onegin" at Georgia College and the upcoming U.S. premiere of the Danish opera "Titanic" in Chicago.
Refreshments will be served.
